Westjet is one of CNIB’s most generous and committed national partners. Westjet’s giving history includes donating numerous ticket vouchers to be used at event raffles and auctions across the country. From these tickets, CNIB has been able to raise, directly and indirectly, approximately $500,000. This mode of giving was recently extended to include seven round-trip tickets for the CNIB SCORE Youth Program’s 2007 participants.

Westjet seat pitch is not 37″. If you actually read that somewhere, the source is mistaken. Westjet pitch in economy is 32″, the same as an Air Canada Airbus (319/320/321) and Embraer 175, more than on Jazz planes (31″), but less than on an Air Canada Embraer 190 (33-34″) or Jazz 705) (34″). And the Jazz and Embraer aircraft have no middle seats.

Westjet has no control over the weather. The airline relies on the airport to supply the de-icing equipment and service that is necessary to take-off in bad weather. So two thumbs down for the Ottawa International Airport for not having enough supplies available to maintain operations in bad weather. How often is there freezing rain in Ottawa? Constantly.

Westjet began service in 1996 with 220 employees, utilizing a fleet of three used Boeing 737-200 aircraft. Initially, service between Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton, Kelowna and Vancouver was offered. Within months, several new routes were added, and WestJet has been growing at a steady pace ever since.

Westjet uses only Boeing 737s in its fleet, with over 50 of them in three different models for different seat capacity. All of the planes are configured in a single class of service, and more than 85% of the WestJet fleet has leather seats and live seatback television.
