The Western Maine Mountains region spans most of Maine's western border with New Hampshire. A small part of the scenic White Mountain National Forest is located in this area. This is essentially all of Oxford County and northern York County.

In the Sebago Lake Region of the Western Maine Mountains, the Crooked Cottage is absolutely adorable. Waterfront on the Crooked River, from here you can paddle to either Sebago Lake or Long Lake.

Nestled in the western Maine mountains, the Otis mill has a rich history of papermaking spanning over 100 years of operation. In 1896 the Otis Falls Paper Company was noted as the largest newsprint mill in the U.S.. In 1898 the mill became one of the founding mills of International Paper. In 1978 the mill was acquired by James River Corporation.
