The Werewolf is a 1913 silent short that is the first werewolf film, directed by Henry MacRae. It is ... a lost film, all prints supposedly having been destroyed in a 1924 fire. A Navajo woman becomes a witch after erroneously coming to believe that her husband has abandoned her. She teaches the same skills to her daughter Watuma, who transforms into a wolf in order to carry out vengeance against the invading white settlers. Then, 100 years after Watuma's death, she returns from the dead to kill again. The script is by Ruth Ann Baldwin, based on the short story The Werewolves by Henry Beaugrand.

Werewolf: the Apocalypse: Heart of Gaia was a short-lived attempt at producing a Werewolf video game by ASC Games. Based on the Quake II engine, the system would have been true to the Storyteller system, while simultaneously answering some of the more common complaints from the first Storyteller games, Vampire: the Masquerade: Redemption. However, ASC closed its doors, taking with it the code to Heart of Gaia. Since this time, White Wolf has not shown interest in licensing out WtA to another company.

A game of Werewolf lasts about 30 minutes and is played through alternating day and night rounds. There are two teams: the Villagers and the Werewolves. At the beginning of the game people are secretly assigned roles via the Moderator. Except for the Moderator, every person is either on the Villager’s side or the Werewolve’s side. The werewolves hide their true nature and try to secretly kill the Villagers at “night”; the Villagers attempt to root out the Werewolves during the “day”. Once a player is dead they are out for the rest of the game.

As a supernatural creature, the Werewolf is immune to conventional injury: penetration wounds, exposure, burning, drowning and suffocation, electrocution, etc. Such phenomena as these can cause him physical injury depending on its severity. However, his recovery rate is over ten times that of a human being. When Russell transforms back to his human form he loses this mystical immunity and recuperative power. The metal silver is necessary to weaken or kill a werewolf, due to its mystical properties of "purity," which are anathema to many supernatural creatures such as werewolves and vampires. If a werewolf is shot or stabbed and mortally wounded by a silver bullet or blade, he or she will die within minutes.

Guy Endore's The Werewolf of Paris was bought by Universal Studios, who wanted to produce a cinematic version. The screenplay changes the location of the movie, which appeared in 1935 as The Werewolf of London. The story was inspired by the true story of Francis Bertrand, a French noncommissioned officer who in 1848 was convicted of breaking into several Paris graveyards, and consuming the flesh of several recently buried bodies. His ghoulish activity was transformed into the story of Bertrand Caullet, the son born as a result of a brief affair between his mother and a priest. He discovered that he was a werewolf when shot with a silver bullet.
