Crossbows were very important in the evolution of historical weapons. It required very little training and skill compared to the bow and was very effective in penetrating early armor. As well, the famed Long Bows of England had great range and penetrating power. But it was the Compound Bow that would forever be remembered as the most powerful bow with the greatest range. The introduction of effective individual gunpowder weapons changed the tactical balance, but only gradually. The early sixteenth-century arquebus may have had a slight advantage over the composite bow in short-range stopping power; but it was markedly inferior in all other categories. The full-blown musket... had a number of advantages. Of all the weapons mentioned in the universe of "Battlestar Galactica", the Pulsar weapons were the only true anti-capital ship weapon ever mentioned. Capable of destroying another vessel with only a few shots, the Pulsar weapons are an extremely powerful type of fusion gun and only the dreaded Cylon Base-Star is armed with them (guns located at the top of the north saucer, and bottom of south saucer).
