Wayne Gretzky Hockey
built 215 days ago
Released on the Amiga back in 1989, Wayne Gretzky Hockey was a great little game of hockey. In an 1989 issue of games magazine "Games Player's" and in its Amiga review, it mentioned that a C64/128 version was being planned for release that year. It is hard to imagine EA doing a game so late into the 80's when you consider they practically left the C64 market early on to go onto the 16-bits.

Unlike some of the sports games on the NES, all of the hockey games except Wayne Gretzky Hockey seem to be pretty darn good. Some excel in different areas but most are fun. However, with this being said there are only 4 for the system.

Wayne Gretzky Hockey was voted Best Sports Simulation of ’88 in the USA, where pounding the puck is as much an institution as the hot dog. They were bound to like it. But bring it over here where no one knows who Wayne Gretzky is, and the odds are it is not going to sell. Which would be a shame.
Wayne Gretzky, hockey's most luminous player, could be traded to the St. Louis Blues as early as Tuesday, ESPN reported Sunday night. The network said the Kings superstar would be traded for three prospects -- Roman Vopat, Patrice Tardiff and Craig Johnson -- and a 1997 first-round draft pick. However, ESPN added, the financial end of the deal is not settled, and that issue is more than a formality. The Blues have been slashing their payroll and Gretzky wants a multiyear contract for at least $7 million a year. He is earning $6.5 million this season, the NHL's top wage earner, and likely would sign a three-year deal worth at least $21 million. If the Kings do not trade Gretzky by the March 20 trade deadline, they risk losing him without compensation.

Wayne Gretzky is a human record book. He holds countless records playing hockey. Performing under pressure and being mentally tough is what made Wayne Gretzky such a dangerous player. When Wayne Gretzky started playing hockey professionally he was not very strong physically, but he made up for that in the mental edge he held over opponents. He was elusive and quick to the puck, and that made him hard to check. Wayne loved to compete.
