Waterproofing: Concrete

A-H Hydrocap, a capillary waterproofing formulation, is a specially designed dry powder consisting of active chemicals, fine aggregate and cementitious ingredients. A-H Hydrocap (Powder) penetrates in-place concrete and/or masonry, and chemically reacts with free lime in the presence of moisture, to produce crystalline growth within the concrete and/or masonry capillaries. The crystalline growth results in producing impervious, dense, waterproof concrete and/or masonry. A-H Hydrocap is particularly effective for use on sanitary engineering structures and for other below grade application where severe water conditions are anticipated.

A building/structure needs waterproofing as concrete itself will never be so perfectly placed as to be watertight on its own. The conventional system of waterproofing involves 'membranes'. This relies on the application of one or more layers of membrane (available in various types of materials: e.g. bitumen, silicate, PVC, HDPE, etc) that act as a barrier between the water and the building structure, preventing water ingress. However, the membrane system relies on perfect application, which has presented difficulties. As such, problems with application or when the membrane does not adhere properly to the substrate can lead to leakages.

Neogard waterproofing systems are liquid-applied, elastomeric systems. They form seamless, "stretchable" films that can accommodate movement in cracked or uncracked concrete surfaces. Each system is specifically formulated for the environment in which it is to be used. Neogard systems can be used on new structures to protect the owners investment, or to restore older structures already in service.
