The Washington Wizards are a National Basketball Association team based in Washington , D.C. The Wizards are of seven teams in the Atlantic Division of the eastern Conference of the National Basketball Association. The team was founded as the Chicago Packers, and ... played as Chicago Zephyrs Baltimore Bullets and Washington Bullets before adopted its current name. The franchise plays in the MCI Center in Washington , D.C. , and wears jerseys of red, white and blue. The team entered the NBA in the 1961-62 season as the Chicago Packers, winning only 18 games in its first season. The Wizard briefly changed its name to the Zephyrs for the 1962-63 season, but in March of they year the team moved to Baltimore and became the Bullets in honor of the area's ammunition factories, which had produced bullets during World War II. The Washington Wizards had won one NBA championship, four Conference titles and seven Division titles.

The team now known as the Wizards begins play as the Chicago Packers in the 1961-62 season. The next season, they changed their name to the Zephyrs. In 1963 the franchise moved to Baltimore, Maryland and became the Baltimore Bullets with no relation to the 1940s-50s Bullets franchise. In their first year in Baltimore, the Bullets finished 4th in a 5-team Western Division. In 1995, owner Abe Pollin announced renaming of the team because Washington Bullets carried violent overtones.

The Washington Wizards have a unique franchise history, starting off as the Chicago Packers in 1961. They changed their name to the Chicago Zephyrs in 1962, then moved to Baltimore for the 1963 season. There, they became the Baltimore Bullets and they played there until 1973. The team then moved to Washington, where they remain to this day. The franchise was extremely successful in the 1970's, with center Wes Unfeld and scorer/rebounder Elvin Nayes. During that time, Washington made it to the NBA Finals 4 times.

The Washington Wizards had a lot to look forward to in 2005-06. After all, they were coming off their first playoff series win since 1982, having eliminated the Chicago Bulls, and the momentum promised to carry over into the new season. But Wizards ticket holders were stunned when Larry Hughes took the money and ran, heading for Cleveland and a fat paycheck from the Cavaliers. Now, the Wizards will fall back on NBA All-Stars Gilbert Arenas and Antawn Jamison to carry them back to the NBA Playoffs, while trying to replace Hughes with the tandem of Caron Butler and Chucky Atkins. It's going to be interesting times in the MCI Center, trying to exorcise Hughes' ghost.

The Washington Wizards were originally the Chicago Packers back in 1961. The franchise moved to Washington in 1973 and changed the name from Bullets to Wizards in 1997. The Greats include Elvin Hayes, Gus Johnson, Wes Unseld and Michael Jordan. Today's Wizards will be led by Gilbert Arenas and Larry Hughes. The Wizards are looking to convert all the young talent into wins in the future.
