Washington Redskins 2007 Home Opener – The Washington players take the field to the roar of 90,000+ Redskins fans. The Washington Redskins kicked off the 2007 NFL season with a 16-13 OT victory. The Redskins defense played outstanding, especially LB Rocky MacIntosh. Although the Redskins offensive line lost starting RT Jon Jansen to a season ending injury in the second quarter, Joe Gibbs and Al Saunders were able to spread out the Dolphins defense and control the game with 191 rushing yards.

The Washington Redskins announced today that they have named Stump Mitchell as assistant head coach/running backs. Mitchell spent the last nine seasons with the Seattle Seahawks as their running backs coach. During that time Seattle running backs recorded 1,000 yard seasons seven times (Ricky Waters 1999-00, Shaun Alexander 2001-05).

Washington Redskins Playoff Tickets Although Redskins tickets have been available since 1932, the team did not begin playing in Washington, D.C. until 1937 after spending their first few years in Boston. The team immediately endeared itself to its new home, winning the NFL title that same year. The team won another championship in 1942, but suffered a championship drought that lastd for 40 years afterwards, even though the team was in contention many times. The arrival of Joe Gibbs in the early 1980's brought in a new championship era, as the Redskins won the Super Bowl after the 1982, 1987 and 1991 seasons. The team is now a cornerstone of sports culture in Washington D.C., and if you're a true football fan, you should see a playoff game at FedEx Field.

With the Steve Spurrier experiment over and done with, the Washington Redskins are ready to get back to playing some real football. Fans who doubt that only need to look at some of the Redskins off season additions. The biggest addition on the Redskins and possible the largest blockbuster deal of the season was the trade of Champ Bailey to the Broncos for running back Clinton Portis. Portis has rushed for over 1200 yards in each of his first three NFL seasons and has done so efficiently, averaging over 5 yards per carry. Coach Joe Gibbs makes his return to the NFL spotlight after more than a decade of retirment to bring his brand of stuff-it-in-your-face football back to the grid iron. Look for Gibbs to power the run up the gut to open up the pass for newly acquired Quarterback Mark Brunell.
