In 1753 Major George Washington explored the Northwest while on a mission to the French Fort LeBoeuf to deliver a message asking the French to leave territory claimed by England. On this trip he noted that "Forks of the Ohio" (present-day Pittsburgh) would be an excellent site for a fort. Virginia authorized funds to build Fort Prince George at Forks of the Ohio.

George finds out about his nominations from E! Actor, director and writer extraordinaire George Clooney found out about his unprecedented three Oscar nominations this morning while watching E!'s 2006 Oscar Nomination Special. When pressed that he was telling the truth, he told Giuliana DePandi he was watching the E! Oscar Nomination show and definitely heard the news there, "swear to God."The first official call he received this morning was from his dad, he told Giuliana. His mother once thought of a career for him in the British Navy but was evidently deterred by a report from her brother in England that an obscure colonial youth could not expect more at Britain's hands than a job as a common sailor.

A milestone year for the George Strait Team Roping Classic became even better with fresh faces setting new records. Header Nick Sartain of Yukon, Okla., and heeler Jhett Johnson of Casper, Wyo., won their first overall title, posting a short-go time of 5.21 seconds Saturday for a three-round aggregate of 16.84 in the 25th annual team roping classic.
