Washington Capitals: Teams
built 236 days ago
The Washington Capitals are one of five teams in the Southeast Division of the Eastern Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). The Capitals play at the MCI Center, and wear uniforms of bronze and blue. The team's name was chosen because it plays in Washington, D.C., the capital of the United States.

After years of trying to buy the Stanley Cup and running big losses, Washington Capitals owner Ted Leonsis shifted gears during the NHL lock out. He chopped the team's player payroll by almost half, shipped superstar Jaromir Jagr to the Rangers, and reduced the overhead of the organization and refinanced debt on the Verizon Center. The Capitals are getting no fan support in the nation's capital. But if the team can get to the second round of the playoffs this season they will be able to leverage their stronger balance sheet into a fat profit.

With 98 goals in his first two seasons with the Washington Capitals, Alex Ovechkin is one of the brightest stars in the NHL, right up there with Sidney Crosby. He’s on track for another huge season and he might lead the Caps to their first playoff appearance in four years. Ovechkin has helped bring back the excitement to the Verizon Center, and he’s caused a big spike in demand for Washington Capitals hockey tickets. During the 1980s and 1990s, the Caps were one of the most consistent teams in the NHL and made the postseason nearly every year, and now that they have a star scorer like Ovechkin they are looking to get back to that level. GoTickets.com has your Caps hockey ticket so that you can see it happen.

Washington Capital tickets have been available since 1974, when the Capitals began play as an expansion team. The team struggled so mightily for its first few years that Caps tickets were initially an afterthought, but the team started to turn things around in the early 1980's. Since then, the team has been a nearly-perennial participant in the Stanley Cup playoffs, and reached the finals in 1998. The current team is looking to add to that tradition, so act now to see a team on the rise.
