Warts: Months
built 607 days ago
Warts may appear within several weeks after sex with someone who has the wart-types of HPV, or it may take several months or years to appear. Or, warts may never appear. This makes it hard to know exactly when or from whom someone got the virus.

Healthcommunities.com, Doctors Helping People Online for Over 10 years Anogenital warts usually appear 3 or 4 months after exposure, typically on the vulva, cervix, penis, scrotum, anus, or inside the vagina or rectum. Oral sex may lead to warts in the mouth and throat. Warts may be red, pink, whitish, or gray. They are usually soft, flat, and irregularly shaped and are usually painless unless irritated by contact. Itching and burning are common once warts become irritated. Discomfort may increase as the warts enlarge, become raised, multiply into cauliflower-shaped clusters, or ulcerate.
In the study, patients wore duct tape over their warts for six days. Then they removed the tape, soaked the area in water and used an emery board or pumice stone to scrape the spot. The tape was reapplied the next morning. The treatment continued for a maximum of two months or until the wart went away.

Though genital warts can be treated, none of the available treatments are a cure for HPV. The virus can remain in nearby skin after treatment. Because the virus can lie dormant in the cells, in some cases warts can return months or even years after treatment. In other cases, warts never recur.

Although you can catch the virus from sexual contact with someone who carries it but has no warts, infection is more likely from someone who has warts. This is because the surface of a wart is teeming with the virus. After infection, warts can develop 3 weeks to a year later (3 months is the average), so do not assume that you caught them from a recent sexual contact.
Viral warts Electrosurgery (curettage & cautery) is used for particularly large and annoying warts. Under local anaesthetic, the growth is pared away and the base burned by diathermy or cautery. The wound heals in about two weeks; even then 20% of warts can be expected to recur within a few months.
