Genital warts in females are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), which is a microscopic virus particle that infects the skin. Genital warts in females can appear as single bumps or in clusters that have a cauliflower-like structure. Warts in females can be found in the genital area including in and around the anus and the vagina.
Subungual wart Over-the-counter medications can remove warts. These are applied to the wart every day for several weeks. DO NOT use these medications on your face or genitals. It helps to file the wart down when damp (for example, after a bath or shower) before applying these medications.

Genital warts... known as condylomata acuminata or venereal warts, are one of the most common types of sexually transmitted diseases. As the name suggests, genital warts affect the moist tissues of the genital area. They may look like small, flesh-colored bumps or have a cauliflower-like appearance. Genital warts may be as small as 1 to 2 millimeters in diameter — smaller than the width of a ballpoint pen refill — or may multiply into large clusters.

This information is about the treatment of common warts. It does not apply to genital or venereal warts. Over-the-counter treatment for common skin warts is based upon the use of products containing salicylic acid.

Anogenital warts may be located deep in the epithelium of the vagina, urethra, or rectum and may be confined to an early isolated outbreak, depending on their type. For these reasons, up to 50% of infected people are unaware that they have genital warts. Untreated genital warts can eventually grow, spread, and form large clusters.
