Warts: Children
built 636 days ago
Many parents try to treat their children's warts at home, which has become much easier now that home wart freezing kits are now available, such as Compound W Freeze Off, Dr. Scholl's Freeze Away Wart Remover, or Wartner Wart Removal System. In addition to home cryotherapy, many parents apply salicylic acid to warts, using OTC products such as Compound W Liquid Wart Remover or Dr. Scholl's Clear Away One Step, Salicylic Acid Wart Remover.

In children, warts can disappear without treatment over a period of several months to years. However, warts that are bothersome, painful, or rapidly multiplying should be treated. Warts in adults often do not disappear as easily or as quickly as they do in children.

Compared with the surrounding normal skin, warts may appear light, dark, or black (very rare). Most adults are familiar with the look of a typical wart and have little trouble recognizing them. However, unusual warts with smooth surfaces or flat warts in children may be more difficult for parents to recognize.

In children, warts often go away on their own. In adults, they tend to stay. If they hurt or bother you, or if they multiply, you can remove them. Chemical skin treatments usually work. If not, various freezing, surgical and laser treatments can remove warts.

There is no single effective treatment for warts; management is based on the age of the individual as well as the size, number, and location of warts. Common warts, especially in children, do not necessarily need to be treated, because they exhibit a high rate of spontaneous remission. Without treatment... spread can occur.

Most warts don't need to be treated. In children, between 30 and 50 percent of verrucas disappear within six months, although they may last longer in adults. One study found that two thirds of warts disappear on their own within two years.
