Warts: Children
built 607 days ago
Warts are rarely seen on children under the age of three, but after this age they become more frequent. Among children between four and six, 5 to 10 per cent get warts, while 15 to 20 per cent of children between the ages of 16 and 18 have them. The frequency drops drastically again on reaching adulthood.

Warts may occur singly or in multiples. They often contain one or more tiny black dots, which are sometimes called wart seeds but are actually small, clotted blood vessels. Common warts are usually painless. Young adults and children appear to be affected most often.

Flat warts are much smaller and are less rough than hand or foot warts. They tend to grow in great numbers -- 20 to 100 at any one time. They can occur anywhere, but in children they are most common on the face. In adults they are most often found in the beard area in men and on the legs in women. Skin irritation from shaving probably accounts for this.

Most children born to women with a history of genital warts do not experience any HPV-related complications. Only very rarely do warty growths occur in an infant's throat as a result. Cesarean delivery is not usually recommended as a method of preventing this unusual occurrence.

Flat warts or Verruca Plana are smaller and tend to grow in great numbers approximately 20 to 100 at a time. Flat warts can occur anywhere. In children , they are commonly seen on the face. In adults, they are often found in the beard area (in men) and legs (in women). Irritation from shaving techniques, in part, account for these areas being susceptible to flat wart formation.

If your child becomes infected with the HPV virus, she may develop warts on her genitals or in her throat (known as laryngeal papillomatosis). Although it is rare for a child to develop warts in her throat, it may require laser surgery to remove them so that they do not obstruct her breathing. Genital warts symptoms in children can remain dormant for up to three years after birth.
