Warts: Bodies

Warts (verrucae vulgaris) are common, benign epidermal lesions associated with human papillomavirus infection. They can appear anywhere on the body in a variety of morphologies. Diagnosis is by examination. Warts are usually self-limited but may be treated by excision, cautery, cryotherapy, liquid nitrogen, and topical or injected agents.

Warts generally appear 1 to 6 months after the person has become infected. Most warts will eventually go away on their own, expelled by the body's immune system. About 25 percent are gone within 3 to 6 months and 65 percent disappear within 2 years.

Warts are contagious and typically spread from one to person to another by direct contact with warts, or by touching a contaminated towel, etc. Children can ... spread them to other parts of their own body by touching or scratching their warts.
Warts are actually benign growths of the epidermis caused by a virus. The virus resides in the bottom layer of the epidermis and replicates there. Warts can appear nearly anywhere on the body and they differ in appearance, size, and shape.
Common warts are clusters of effected cells. Most are round and raise above the skins surface. Once a person has contacted warts, generally more are introduced to other sites on the body accidentally or unconsciously by scratching or abraising the wart then introducing it to another site on the body. This process is called 'autoinoculation'. Common warts posses little potential for health problems unless they bleed, change color or shape. Most are removed for cosmetic purposes or because location on the body cause irritation due to rubbing on clothing, etc.

Planter warts are caused by viral infection. The nasty little virus sneaks into your feet through cuts so small so as to avoid detection. Planter warts can spread quickly--on your body, as well as to others. Nothing will give you a good reason to fear public showers or walking barefoot like a good bout of planter warts. Can you hear your mom yelling at you to put something on your feet?
