Beatty's first television gig was a few appearances in "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis" (1959). He thought the show was dopey; it was. He abandoned "Dobie Gillis" to work on Broadway. Warren had no intention of being outdone by his sister whose career was beginning to shine.
