Warren Beatty: Arnold Schwarzenegger
built 264 days ago
As California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's popularity with California voters dropped, Beatty campaigned against the special election in November 2005. He was the keynote speaker at the California Nurses Association's 2005 convention, and recorded radio ads urging voters to reject Schwarzenegger's ballot proposals. The propositions were defeated at the ballot box, increasing speculation that Beatty may run against Schwarzenegger in the 2006 election. Beatty has said that he is reluctant to enter the race because of the possibility of revealing his sexual liaisons, but he has not ruled it out.

Warren Beatty Multiple news crews were in attendance in Faculty Glade, drawn by rumors that Beatty would declare his intent to replace Schwarzenegger. He did not do so, but he did have this to say: "Although I don't want to run for governor, I'd do one helluva lot better job than he's done." However, in answer to reporters' questions immediately following the ceremony, Beatty said that he "was not ruling out" a run for governor.

From the podium Warren is most enthusiastic speaking on political issues. He has been extremely active in liberal causes since the 1960s, when he campaigned for Senator Robert Kennedy; in 2005 he successfully rallied voters to defeat all four of California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s ballot proposals. Perennially floated as a potential challenger for both the governor’s seat and the Oval Office, Warren has declined to step into the political arena himself, but he continues to support liberal politics throughout the country.

Mr. Beatty, 68... faulted Mr. Schwarzenegger for failing to criticize the Bush administration. "Not facing facts is a mistake and that concept of reality should be saved for action movies and for show business," he said.

Beatty, a Democrat and longtime political activist who has been mentioned as a possible challenger to Schwarzenegger next year, did not announce his candidacy as many in the boisterous crowd had hoped. But he indicated he hadn't ruled out a run, and said he would continue to speak out on important issues.

Reiner, like Beatty, has been mentioned as a possible gubernatorial candidate but Reiner, like Beatty, has said he isn't running. As it did with Beatty, the Field Poll put Reiner about even with Schwarzenegger.
