Disney Theatrical Productions started 2006 with the world premiere of Broadway's high-flying adventure, TARZAN(R), one of the most artistically innovative shows to come to Broadway in recent memory. Featuring direction, set, and costume design by multi-Tony Award(R) winner Bob Crowley, and music by Academy Award(R) and multiple-GRAMMY(R) winner Phil Collins, TARZAN(R) has thrilled audiences since opening in May 2006. Heralded by Time Magazine as "sensational" and by The Financial Times as "the only show of the [2005-2006] season that places us joyously in a world of wonder," TARZAN(R) has proven to be a hit, having set the box office record at the Richard Rodgers Theatre an impressive five times in 2006. Audiences have responded enthusiastically with over 368,000 people having seen the show on Broadway to date.

In the 1950s and 1960s, Disney's considerable visionary energies were given over to other media—he embraced television and became deeply involved in the physical construction of fairylands rather than their animation through film. Disneyland, a theme park that embodied the same ideology of the Disney fairy‐tale cartoons in its emphasis on cleanliness, order, and innocence, opened in Orange County, California, in 1955. Disney ... oversaw the purchase of land in Orlando, Florida, in 1965 for the Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow (EPCOT) and what would become Disney World. Here Disney's utopian bent had free rein as he attempted to enlist American industry and technology in the service of bourgeois community life. From almost nothing, Disney and his team of devoted supporters had created a multi‐million‐dollar commercial empire based on the fairy tale.

Disney World was to include a larger, more elaborate version of Disneyland which was to be called the Magic Kingdom. It would ... feature a number of golf courses and resort hotels. The heart of Disney World, however, was to be the Experimental Prototype City (or Community) of Tomorrow, or EPCOT for short. EPCOT was designed to be an operational city where residents would live, work, and interact using advanced and experimental technology, while scientists would develop and test new technologies to improve human life and health.
Disney set its all-new movie, " Pocahontas: Journey To A New World," in London, England where Pocahontas and her friends experience the adventure of a lifetime. Along with six, show stopping new songs, the movie features the return of voice talent from the original film including Irene Bedard (Pocahontas) and David Ogden Stiers (Ratcliffe), and welcomes Donal Gibson as the voice of John Smith, " Titanic" star Billy Zane as John Rolfe, Jean Stapleton as Mrs. Jenkins and Finola Hughes as Queen Anne. " Pocahontas: Journey To A New World" debuts on August 4,1998.
Disney had ... dreamed of developing a city of the future, a dream realized in 1982 with the opening of EPCOT, which stands for Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow. EPCOT, which cost an initial $900 million, was conceived of as a real-life community of the future with the very latest in high technology. The two principle areas of EPCOT are Future World and World Showcase, both of which were designed to appeal to adults rather than children.
