Pending the Disney acquisition of Pixar, the two companies created a distribution deal for the intended 2007 release of Ratatouille, in case the acquisition fell through, to ensure that this one film would still be released through Disney's distribution channels. (In contrast to the earlier Disney/Pixar deal Ratatouille was to remain a Pixar property and Disney would have received only a distribution fee.) The completion of Disney's Pixar acquisition... nullified this distribution arrangement.
"Tinker Bell has been recognized as an icon by fans of all ages for many years -- her merchandise sales to date have proven this despite the lack of new content," said Andy Mooney, chairman of Disney Consumer Products. "This new film will bring to life Tinker Bell's spectacular world and will offer incremental opportunities across the company to grow the Disney Fairies franchise significantly."
After the war, the unfavorable economics of concentrating exclusively on animated movies finally caught up with Disney and his company, as they diversified into television and live-action movies, still retaining their family-friendly nature. However, Disney testified before the House Un-American Activities Committee, and he named several of his employees as Communist sympathizers. Some historians believe that the animosity from the studio strike caused him to bear a grudge, along with his dislike and distrust of labor unions, leading to his testimony.
