George Wallace junior observed in 1965 that 'most people in show business have short-contracted lives'. His own hard-working one was ample testament to this. A shy, gentle and generous perfectionist, he was a natural and instinctively funny comedian. With a forte for timing, for playing situation comedy and for taking spectacular 'pratfalls', as well as revelling in the power of the ad lib, he carved out his own unique niche as the last of the real Australian music-hall entertainers.

LAS VEGAS, April 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Everyone doubted that Sly would join The Family Stone band at the highly anticipated concert booked by Las Vegas comic headliner George Wallace for March 31st at the Flamingo Las Vegas. Everyone but George Wallace, that is! Save for a few appearances, including one at the 2006 Grammy Awards, where Sly would visit the stage for a portion of one song, the reclusive funk icon has a history of barely being there for shows when he joined his Family band. Amongst talk of Sly's thinking of returning for a summer tour, Wallace pursued and persevered.
