Wacky Races: Game
built 279 days ago
Wacky Races presents you with the chance to take some of the lesser-known Hanna-Barberra creations out for a spin. Naturally the racers who are gunning for the title of "World's Wackiest Racer" are going to be driving strange vehicles and wielding even stranger weapons to keep themselves ahead of the pack. You will have to decide if you're going to win by hook or by crook. Both of which are quite literally possible in this game.

Wacky Races underwent the usual merchandising route, including a comic book from Gold Key that ran seven issues (August, 1969 through April, 1972). As recently as 2000, it was made into a popular video game. But nowadays, it's mostly seen in a very occasional rerun.

A spin off from the Wacky Races was Deathrace 2000, founded by Rufus Ruffcut & Sawtooth (who drove The Buzz Wagon in WR) when they realised they weren't getting enough chances to cut peope up with their saw tooth wheels. Professor Pat Pending of The Convert-a-Car is an avid player of this game after he invented the Doomsday Device in 1973.

[T]hat pretty much sums up the gameplay of Wacky Races as well. Nothing all that special, but certainly fitting, and quite entertaining. Wacky Races certainly isn’t a revolution in the racer genre -- it’s basically a repackaged Crash Team Racing with a different way of doing weapons and much better graphics -- but it never fails to entertain.
