In 2001, Wachovia merged with First Union to create the Wachovia Corporation. As a result, three First Union Towers in Charlotte, North Carolina were re-branded to Wachovia Centers. Corporate, administrative and retail signage throughout the towers was replaced to establish the new corporate identity.

WASHINGTONThe U.S. Department of Labor announced today that Wachovia Corporation, headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., has agreed to settle findings of compensation discrimination against 2,021 current and former female employees. The agreement settles the departments allegations that Wachovia engaged in compensation discrimination against female employees for six years.
