Exposure to certain environmental toxins can lead to nausea and vomiting as prominent symptoms. Carbon monoxide intoxication presents in a non-specific manner. Headache, dizziness, fatigue and nausea and vomiting are common (40). In addition, disturbed judgment and diminished visual acuity may be seen. Blood carboxyhemoglobin levels of 40-60% are associated with tachypnea, tachycardia, ataxia, syncope and seizures. The EKG may show ST segment changes, conduction blocks and atrial or ventricular arrhythmias.

Although the medical history and physical exam is usually sufficient to determine the cause of vomiting, certain laboratory tests may ... be performed. Blood tests may be performed to check for dehydration (decreased water), anemia (decreased number of red blood cells or iron-poor blood), and electrolyte (blood chemicals) imbalances, as well as specific tests to confirm the suspected diagnosis.

Candy, soft drinks, and vigorous playing added together equal vomiting in kids. Limit snacks to one candy bar or junk-food item. If a snack includes a candy bar or junk-food item, wash it down with water, not soda pop. If they're having a high-sugar soft drink (especially carbonated), avoid more sweets. And don't let kids eat and play at the same time.

The reason for having these criteria is that there are children who have vomiting for unknown reasons but do not have normal healthy intervals in between episodes. These children may be vomiting every day or every other day as opposed to children with Cyclic Vomiting who tend to go for weeks without vomiting episodes.
