Volkswagen New Beetle: New Beetle Convertible
built 606 days ago
The uniquely shaped Volkswagen New Beetle continues to capture attention on the road. The New Beetle Convertible, which was introduced during the 2003 model year, enhances the visual appeal further yet. For 2006, a new inline-five-cylinder engine is standard and subtle styling revisions have been made.

For four-season fun, the New Beetle convertible features a three-layer cloth top with a heated glass rear window. An extra window switch on convertible models allows the driver to lower and raise all of the side windows simultaneously. The modern top helps keep road noise out in the "up" or closed position. Lowering the top is easy, and it piles neatly behind the rear seat in original Beetle fashion.

With a price starting at $20,450 for the GL, Volkswagen aims for the New Beetle convertible to be the highest-volume, lowest-priced European convertible in North America. That should be an easy goal, especially since the Golf Cabrio is now gone.

Following its debut for the 1998 model year, Volkswagen's retro-themed New Beetle saw an early sales surge. Its popularity waned later, prompting Volkswagen to look for variants. A sporty Turbo S edition joined the lineup in 2002 but was dropped after 2004, and a New Beetle Convertible debuted in 2003.
