[I]n 1996, Vivian retired from nude modelling and returned her focus to music with her first solo effort "Angel Dreaming". Over the next few years, Vivian's prolific music career saw the release of a number of CDs, including albums sung in Korean and Japanese. She ... formed a number of successful but short-lived bands with Japanese artists, such as Black Biscuits (which started as a gag from a Japanese variety show) and The d.e.p. In addition to singing, Vivian has made her mark as a lyricist, penning songs for a number of artists (including Jay Chou), and as a legitimate actress with roles in Jackie Chan's "The Accidental Spy", the Taiwanese soap opera "Love Storm", as well as voiceover work in "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED" and the localized version of "Powderpuff Girls".

During the 90s, Hsu released several albums in either of three different languages: Japanese, Mandarin, or Korean. Vivian has appeared in a number of movies and television programs both in Taiwan and in Japan. She appeared in the ambitious 2006 mainland China-Taiwan-Hong Kong collaboration "The Knot", a romance movie that takes place between the CCP takeover of mainland China and the present. Her debut films are 赤裸天使 (py. Chìluǒ Tiānshǐ, titled "Angel Heart" internationally) in 1994 and 魔鬼的天使 (py. Móguǐ Tiānshǐ, en. Devil Angel) in 1995, both rated as Category III movies.
