Viruses (Living Thing) , and more.
Viruses, worms, and trojan horses are the biggest threats to personal computer security. Virus protection is a necessity for everyone that owns or uses a computer. While PCs have more problems with viruses, the advent of macro viruses means Macintoshes are vulnerable as well.

Since the mid-1990s, macro viruses have become common. Most of these viruses are written in the scripting languages for Microsoft programs such as Word and Excel. These viruses spread in Microsoft Office by infecting documents and spreadsheets. Since Word and Excel were ... available for Mac OS, most of these viruses were able to spread on Macintosh computers as well. Most of these viruses did not have the ability to send infected e-mail. Those viruses which did spread through e-mail took advantage of the Microsoft Outlook COM interface.
Boot sector viruses are viruses which attack the vulnerable boot program, which is stored on every single bootable floppy or hard disk. These viruses are most commonly spread through infected floppy disks. File infectors are viruses which directly attack and then modify program files. They usually load themselves to the memory and then wait for a trigger to find and then infect other files and programs. Finally the macro viruses are those viruses which are able to cause as much damage as regular viruses, despite the fact that they are incredibly different.
While a simple virus may propagate itself but allow the program to run normally, many viruses are malicious by nature. For example, a virus may be programmed to display an offensive screen message, modify certain documents or do irreversible damage by deleting all the files on a machine. Viruses are categorized into Simple, Encrypted, Polymorphic and Macro Viruses, Trojan Horses and Worms. Be prepared - viruses aren't fun!

Macro viruses are just the tip of the iceberg... and are no longer among the most common virus types. Many viruses take advantage of Trident, the rendering engine behind Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer that’s also used by almost every piece of Microsoft software available to one degree or another, for instance. Windows viruses often take advantage of image-rendering libraries, SQL Server’s underlying database engine, and other components of a complete Windows operating system environment as well.
