Virtual Pets: Games
built 70 days ago
Virtual Pets are virtually good Virtual pets are a new "breed" of creatures created through a mix of computer technology, gaming and robotics. These creatures may exist only on the Internet, or they may exist as physical objects such as a robotic pet. They are not flesh and blood animals and don't really need to eat or sleep, but they often require their owner to provide them with some form of caring just like living pets do.

Bandai, the company behind the virtual pets has teamed up with PlayPhone to bring Tamagotchi-branded cell phones for your little ones. Part toy, part cell phone, the device will include an enhanced version of the original Tamagotchi as a mobile game and a Tamagotchi wallpaper. Here's what one looks like:
In addition to VLB and its sister properties, Nickelodeon/MTVN Kids & Family Group boasts two youth-targeted virtual properties: the original virtual world for tweens, Neopets (www.neopets.com), and one of the fastest growing virtual world for kids, Nicktropolis. With more than 40 million global memberships registered, Neopets is the largest global youth-focused virtual world where members care for their "virtual pets." Nicktropolis combines everything kids love: casual gaming, video and chat all, into one. Featuring kids' favorite Nick properties, it delivers the ultimate kids' playground with non-branded destinations, gaming, video and personalization.

The Tamagotchi is an egg-shaped toy that simulates the life cycle of a real pet, letting kids experience the fun of caring for their own virtual pet - without the responsibility and the mess. The advanced Tamagotchi Connection features new infrared communication, which allows owners to “connect,” play games, give gifts and become friends with others while storing a “friend list” of up to 50 pals. Once an adult, the character can connect with a compatible friend and have a second-generation Tamagotchi that the owner can then nurture into more generations to come. With a larger display and enhanced graphics from the original version, Tamagotchi Connection owners can care for their pet by selecting various controls to feed it a meal or snack, play games with it, clean up after its messes and give it medicine when it becomes sick.

The series has ... diversified into various spin-offs, such as pinball games, virtual pets, simulated photography, and racing. A handful of these spinoffs are remade in subsequent "generations"; for example, Pokémon Pinball: Ruby and Sapphire is very similar to Pokémon Pinball but with newer Pokémon, and Pokémon Stadium 2 is largely identical to Pokémon Stadium but for the compatibility with Pokémon Gold and Silver.

Other virtual pets come in software run on PCs or video game consoles. Since the computing power is more powerful than with webpage or gadget based digital pets, these are usually able to achieve a higher level of visual effects and interactivity. Games like Nintendogs render realistic figures of dogs.
