Virtual Boy Wario Land for the Virtual Boy is very similar to Wario's other platforming roles. As in the original Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3, Wario can collect different hats to give himself new abilities. The Dragon Hat allows Wario to use a flamethrower against his enemies, but must recharge (He ... cannot barge anymore). The Bull Helmet makes his barge attack faster and a lot more powerful along with the ability to do a ground pound, which can be used to crush his enemies and break blocks below. The Eagle Hat allows Wario to fly and as a bonus you're allowed to barge while in mid-air. By combining the Eagle Hat with the Dragon Hat, Wario earns the King Dragon Hat with the powers of all three caps (except you cannot barge).

Virtual Boy Wario Land really shows off the system's potential with its multi-layered graphics and convincing sense of 3D. The game is much more than a technical showcase.... It is not only the best action-platformer on the system (in fact, it's the only one!), but it compares favorably with best of the Mario series.

Nintendo Power magazine's spikey-haired comic mascot, Nester, finally broke into the big time in 1996, starring in his own Virtual Boy game from Nintendo: Nester's Funky Bowling. Featuring Nester and his twin sister Hester, this is the next-to-last Virtual Boy game released in the United States and is the one of only two second generation titles for the failed system. Much more importantly, it's one of the only two-player Virtual Boy games; players can alternate between bowling frames. Unfortunately, like many other games for the system it does not make full use of 3D capabilities, nor is it truly outstanding in any way. What it is... is a fun little bowling game.

Due to the unexpected failure of the system, the Virtual Boy has a higher than normal number of games cancelled in mid-production. Some cancelled games were close to completion, but the cost of production for a failed system would have resulted in a net loss, while others were cancelled early in development. Virtual Boy Wario Land voor de Virtual Boy lijkt sterk op ander Wario spelletjes. Zoals in Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3, kan Wario verschillende hoeden verzamelen die hem vaardigheden geven. De Draak Hoed laat hem vuurspuwen naar zijn vijanden. De Stier Helm maakt zijn aanval met zijn schouders sterker. De Arend Hoed laat Wario vliegen en als je die combineerd met de Draak Hoed krijg je de Koning Draak Hoed wat hem de vaardigheden geeft van alle drie hoeden. In elke stage moet Wario schaten verzamelen.
