The story takes place one year after the “Worldwide Martial Arts Championship,” which took place in Virtua Fighter 4. Now a new date has been set for the Worldwide Martial Arts Championship II, and you want to take place in it. The only way to qualify for it is to fight through all of the arcades in the city, and make a name for yourself. The city is your arena, and it is your duty to become the number one player in the world. Are you up to the challenge?
The fighting arenas reverted back to the old Virtua Fighter style of flat and square, as opposed to Virtua Fighter 3's wild and undulating stage designs. The reason behind this was to make the game less random, and more balanced and competitive in nature. Walls... were kept and expanded upon with a wall stagger/juggle system and several wall types including high + unbreakable, low + breakable, and low + unbreakable + open corners.
A character that reaches level 2 or level 3 will unlock their old victory poses from previous Virtua Fighters. To see the level 2 pose, hold PUNCH + KICK + GUARD during the replay. The level 3 pose can be seen by pressing PUNCH + KICK at replay.
By hitting the true combination of buttons, players can deftly deflect strikes and leave what fighter in an ideal position to land the next punch. However, aggressors with lightning reflexes can ... reverse these counters, outwitting their opponent's block to land an unexpected hit. VF4:Evo is the closest thing to perfection a 3D fighter has come. It's amazing how from just the use of 3 buttons there comes so much to learn and so much to master.
