The Virtua Fighter series is one of the premier fighting game franchises focusing on a realistic representation of fighting. This fifth installment introduces two new characters, Eileen and El Blaze, along with their new and unique fighting styles. Every fighter has their own style that is based off of real world martial arts. The simplicity in the control scheme belies the underlying complexity that makes Virtua Fighter one of the deepest franchises available, and the fifth installment the most sophisticated of the series. Using joystick motions, a combination of the three buttons and precise timing literally hundreds of offensive and defensive moves are available for each fighter.

Virtua Fighter is a 1993 fighting game developed for the Sega Model 1 arcade platform by AM2, a development group within Sega, headed by Yu Suzuki. It was the first game in the Virtua Fighter series, and the first 3D-based fighting game (4D Sports Boxing was released few years earlier, but belongs to slightly different genre). Virtua Fighter 5 will deliver fast-paced, adrenaline-pumping action as players head into battle, taking on a host of popular characters. The game will introduce two new dynamic characters, El Blaze and Eileen, complete with new fighting techniques and from completely different backgrounds. Play as one of the 17 default characters in the game or customize a character to become the top Virtua Fighter. Players will be able to modify their characters by selecting from four base costumes and then decorate them by attaching a wide range of unlockable and earnable items. Fans of the Virtua Fighter video game may be disappointed to learn that not all the characters are given equal screen time. The four main characters (Akira, Pai, Jacky, and Sarah) are the focus of the story, while other characters may appear only in a single episode or two. Kagemaru, the ninja, is the only Virtua Fighter character to appear in more than six episodes. He is a noble soul, who is repentant after kidnaping Sarah Bryant, and spends the rest of the series atoning for his actions.

The Microsoft Xbox 360™ version of Virtua Fighter™ 5 is based on the latest arcade version update and features both analog stick and D-pad control, as well as vibration support. The game ... includes an improved Quest mode featuring more CPU rivals, items, and emblems for character customization. The DOJO mode has added features including leaderboards, training move settings, improved throw escape training, and the option to change your opponent’s position and recovery type. These all work to create a more refined DOJO mode where players can improve their fighting strategy.
