A man who died at the home of action star Ving Rhames most likely did not die from bites from Rhames' dogs, county coroner's officials said Friday. Jacob Adams, 40, was living on Rhames' Brentwood property as a caretaker for the actor's dogs when he was bitten Aug. 3, police said.

A coroner’s office spokesman says actor Ving Rhames’ caretaker died from a “pre-existing heart problem,” not from an attack by the actor’s dogs. Rhames was out of the country when the body of his employee was discovered on the actor’s California estate last summer. Some speculated that bite marks on Jacob Adams, 40, were present because the dogs actually tried assist him by pulling his motionless body to revive him. “The dogs didn’t kill Mr. Adams,” says Ed Winter. “… The dog bites found on him were determined to be non-fatal.” Rhames’ dogs – three mastiffs and a bulldog – were quarantined but have since been returned.
