Viewtiful Joe: Viewtiful Joe 2
built 275 days ago
Viewtiful Joe is a fantastic 2D game that everyone should pick up. Its at a value price now and the PS2 version includes an unlockable Dante from Devil May Cry, who uses cute little guns Ebony and Ivory to blast people to pieces.

Viewtiful Joe was released on the Gamecube in 2003, now the former Cube exclusive has found a home on the PS2 as well. The result is the same wonderfully old school cel shaded game, still looking stylish in it's one of a kind way, and with some even slightly better

There are even a few RPG-like aspects to Viewtiful Joe. V-Points are awarded for using Joe’s VFX powers to rack up big combos (the bigger the combo, the more points you earn). A few times during each Episode, you are given a chance to spend your V-Points on a number of different things, such as new fighting maneuvers, Voomerangs, Bombs, upgrades to your VFX capabilities, a bigger life bar, extra lives and the ever handy Take 2 (which gives you an entire second life bar to work with). This gradual building up of Joe’s abilities keeps things fresh and gives you something to work towards while playing.
Different viewers will be able to appreciate Viewtiful Joe: Vol. 1 for different reasons. Gamers will recognize and respect two elements about the anime right off the bat. The first, which is immediately noticeable, is that the toons adhere to the original look of the games. They use the same cel-shaded style that the Joe titles helped refine on GameCube and PlayStation 2. The shows are well drawn and although animation frames are few and far between - smooth, these episodes are not - the illustrators have at least really captured the overall look of the franchise, right down to the broken down backdrops that the loud-mouthed hero explores on his journey. Second, the episodes never stray too far from the original subject matter.

While at times this game feels more like a expansion pack than a sequel, Viewtiful Joe 2 will, for the most part, cater well to the audience it enticed in the original. However, it may alienate some gamers who haven’t played the original VJ. Which is a let down, because this is probably one of the best franchises to come from the land of the rising sun in a while.
This is the E3 2005 trailer for Viewtiful Joe: VFX Battle on the Nintendo DS by Clover Studio. The Viewtiful one will be making a stop on both Nintendo's DS portable. Henshen a go go, baby!!!
