Vietnam Veterans Memorial: Missing

The Vietnam Veterans of Southern Minnesota decided in 1986 to erect a monument to their comrades who died in combat in Vietnam. The setting of the memorial is significant: Corporal George Stoltzman was the first man from this area to die in Vietnam. The street is named after him. A local artist, Tom Maegher Miller, created the monument, based on input from the veterans' group. Vetter Stone delivered an eight ton block of Kasota stone to the farm where Tom carved his last statue.

The memorial is intended to honor all Vietnam-era veterans, including those who did not actually go to Vietnam, Thomson said. There will be an inscription in the center of the monument dedicating it to all who served from 1959 to 1975.
