Video Surveillance: Systems
built 290 days ago
The first two documented instances of public video surveillance by American police departments were in the cities of Hoboken, New Jersey, in 1966, and Mount Vernon, New York, in 1971. Other cities soon followed their lead. However, many of these early systems were technically and financially deficient, and lacked local public support. According to a police officer, "Cops weren't thrilled with the cameras." Police staff often had to sit in a room to monitor the CCTV cameras, which frequently broke down.51

For nearly a decade, unmanned aerial systems (UAS) have been used to collect video surveillance for defense and homeland security initiatives. However, without the ability to synchronize video with the collected metadata, the imagery itself is an inaccurate source of information. Sarnoff is a world-class leader in the development of devices and systems for the exploitation of full motion imagery captured by UAVs.

[V]ideo surveillance systems were based on analog video cameras connected to a VCR. That time a security guard was sitting in front of black and white monitor. Usually the monitor screen was divided to 4 or 16 areas to show video from few cameras. Professionals called such systems Close Circuit Television รข€“ CCTV.
