Victorian England was a deeply religious country. A great number of people were habitual church-goers, at least once and probably twice, every Sunday. The Bible was frequently and widely read by people of every class; so too were religious stories and allegories. Yet towards the end of Queen Victoria's reign, the hold of organized religion upon the English people began to slacken for several reasons.

This historical 1908 Victorian was the home of the prominent McMillan family. The building was completely restored in 1998 and converted into an attractive and comfortable Bed and Breakfast with five tastefully decorated bedrooms, one with two single beds, one with a double bed and three rooms have a queen bed. All have a private bath, TV and telephone. A full hot breakfast is served each morning to the guests.

In addition to window dressings, Victorian home decor requires Victorian furniture and accents. Furniture should be beautiful but usable, and its purpose should be crystal clear. Once you have your furniture in place, accents are the next layer to add. Perhaps the best example of Victorian style home decor is ornate white lampshades. This should pertain to every lampshade in your house. Similar to the windows, your light bulbs should be dressed in two to three layers of white fabric, with gold accents if you wish

The inline shaded version of Victorian perfectly reflects the ornate letterforms used in advertising at the turn of the century. It is based on a form of lettering that was etched into glass and often used for advertising purposes or to impart information. Fine old examples of this work may still be seen today, particularly in traditional English pubs. Created in the Letraset Type Studio.
