Stick Eastlake structures include square bays, flat roof lines, free-style decorations, and lots of spindles and brackets. Queen Anne houses have a gabled roof, insets with textured shingles, angled bay windows under the gable, wrap-around porches, and sometimes a round tower or two. Gothic Revival houses are distinctive with their arched window mouldings.
The Victorian era is known for many things, including the distinctive art and architecture that flourished during the period. The period is named for Queen Victoria of England. When she came to the throne, a time of sentiment and self-indulgence was ended. By setting a new standard for virtue, she returned respect to the throne and spurred a worldwide movement, The Victorian Era. The Era lasted 63 years, from 1837 to 1901.

It ended over sixty years later when Queen Victoria died in 1901. The intervening era, spanning the last two thirds of the 19th century, was a time of epic romance, great tragedies and unprecedented prosperity. The jewels of the Victorian era reflected these ever changing fortunes and are usually loosely divided into three broad periods: the Romantic, the Grand and the Late Victorian.
The Victorian era was a transit era from the extravagant clothes men wore in earlier times, to the modern 20th Century costume. Queen Victoria was on the throne for 63 years, which is a very long time for fashions to stay the same. In fact, womens fashions changed many times during that period. Mens fashions changed more slowly. The top hat worn in Romantic times is still worn today, nearly 200 years later. Several Victorian hats are still worn.

It is not tied to this historical period and can describe any set of values that espouses sexual repression, low tolerance of crime, and a strong social ethic. Due to the prominence of the British Empire, many of these values were spread across the world.
