She was the first African American model to grace the covers of both GQ and Sports Illustrated's swimsuit issues, as well as the Victoria's Secret catalogue.Banks went on to create and executive-produce one of a very few shows that have put a whole network -- UPN -- on the map. "America's Next Top Model" is averaging 4.8 million viewers this season -- to Koppel's 3.7 million. Banks also has a syndicated daytime talk show, which is averaging about 1.7 million viewers.

Regions - The Victoria's Secret Catalog is not only printed in the United States. There are ... special versions of the catalog printed for the Canadian market. In additionsome Japanese catalogs have been published although their appearance on eBay is extremely rare.

During the 1980s, thanks in large part to efforts by The Limited Inc. and the mass circulation of the Victoria's Secret catalog, the company gained stature both in the U.S. and internationally. The company marketed bras, chemises, panties, silk pajamas, corsets and other extravagant nightwear in an elegant setting reminiscent of a 19th century Victorian bedroom.

Several dozen women, dressed as Victoria's Secret Angels with wings, protested the retailer's paper consumption, given its 395 million catalogues. The protest, by ForestEthics, was led by a man dressed as a preacher, who bellowed obscenities in the pouring rain through a bullhorn as guests arrived.

Now although Victoria's Secret has printed many millions of catalogs over the decades, the vast majority, probably over 99.999%, ended up in landfills or recycled into other products. This makes a catalog from as little as 5 years ago likely only to be found in the hands of a collector.

Victoria's Secret sends out over 360 million catalogs each year, so it's a huge environmental victory that the company has agreed to use at least some recycled paper in its mailings. Sarah Gardner reports.
