Victor French: Prairie Highway
built 628 days ago
Victor French Remember as Mr. Edwards on the TV series "Little House on the Prairie", French is one of the most endearing character actors of the 1970s and 1980s. He was a natural as a lovable sidekick but could ... very effectively play a sadistic, menacing killer. Tall, burly and dark with curly black hair, usually with a beard and/or mustache, a pug nose and squinty, sparkling eyes he was a charismatic actor. He was born on December 4, 1934 in Santa Barbara, California, the son of a Hollywood stuntman. His father instilled in him a love for western lore and legend. His first job was working with his father in stunts on the "Gunsmoke" television series.
Born in Santa Barbara, California, French costarred on the television series Little House on the Prairie (1974-1977, 1981-1983, 1984) as Isaiah Edwards and Highway to Heaven (1984-1989) as Mark Gordon. He ... starred in Carter Country. He played the recurring character "Agent 44" in the series Get Smart! in 1965-1966, where he portrayed an undercover spy who showed up in the most unlikely of places (like a mailbox or a porthole in a boat).
When asked which character on Little House on the Prairie was most like their real-life persona, Lucy Lee Flippin (who played Eliza Jane Wilder) has said it was Victor French, saying, "he was really a Teddy Bear." (edit)

While researching for their Best Of The Badmen book, authors Boyd Magers, Bob Nareau and Bobby Copeland discovered that Charles K. is not the father of Ted French (1903-1978), who worked in about twenty oaters during the 1940s. And he is not the grandfather of Victor French (1934-1989), the burly and bearded helper to Michael Landon on TV's LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE and HIGHWAY TO HEAVEN. However, Ted and Charles K. were close friends, and Charles became Victor's "adopted grandfather".
