There’s no Latin rapper as convincingly earnest as Vico C who still manages to swing. In the closing message of this CD’s liner notes, Vico deftly draws a distinction between the dollars his fans proffer him and the blessings his maker bestows upon his soul. It’s more than a clue as to what makes him tick: He wants to start a revolution … in your home. The 13 tracks of Spanish language rap from this former heroin addict rather remarkably point the way. It comes down to facing your own hypocrisies, telling it like it is, and thereby facing the universal you, which turns out to be connected to the universal “them.”

Although Vico C helped spread the message and sound of reggaeton, few dispute that it was El General who got the music started in the first place. A Panamian ragga deejay, El General was one of the artists most profoundly influenced by Jamaican reggae. He took these influences to his turntables, where he created his own version of Latin reggae.
