Vic Reeves: Nancy Sorrell
built 216 days ago
Vic Reeves is in his kitchen. Or at least what remains of it. Today he, his wife Nancy and their baby twins are moving from their converted church outhouse in Kent to a larger property a couple of miles away and among the few items that have still to be boxed up are a handful of CDs perched against the cooker, including one by Seventies jazz-rock oddballs Henry Cow.
Vic loves playing video games with his wife Nancy and was ... chosen by BAFTA for his artistic appreciation of, and involvement in, contemporary popular culture. Painting was his original career plan and he attended a foundation course in London's East End and worked in a gallery in the mid-80s while continuing to paint and draw. He has also exhibited at the Royal Academy and many other galleries.
Maybe it wasn't so surprising that the producers hoped Vic would get it on with Nancy. After all, the tabloids have created a character who is in and out of marital trouble and very partial to a drink or two. In 1993, Vic married Sarah, with whom he had Alice and Louis. Towards the end of the Nineties, Sarah's antics dragged Vic into the tabloids for the first time. Initially, the story was about Sarah and a builder called Keith; latterly, it was about her female personal trainer, with whom she had fallen in love. In 1999, Vic then announced he had fallen in love with and was engaged to Emilia Fox, one of his costars in Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased)
You can tell a great deal about a person with a glance around their house, and Reeves’ home speaks volumes. The £800,000 converted Victorian schoolhouse, which he bought from Dr Who actor Tom Baker in 2003, stands in a secluded spot, with only the occasional lamb bleating in a neighbouringfield to break the silence. Inside, the décor has touches of the macabre: a ram’s skull leaning against the wall; a stuffed woodpecker in a glass case; and a statuette of Dali’s Elephant with long legs. On the walls, art-work ranges from rustic oil-paintings of horses to showbizzy portraits of Reeves, 47, and his model/actress wife, Nancy Sorrell, 32. On the lawn, barely yards from the Norman church that abuts the property, there’s a raised hot-tub – with space enough for four people. What does all this say about Reeves?

Whatever the truth, it soon becomes clear that Vic is no non-believer. The first indications of his personal interest come when he announces he is here as Jim Moir, his real name. He’s not even bothering to act up for the cameras and is being uncharacteristically shy, moody and even a little difficult – he keeps us waiting nearly two hours while he sits in the pub. There are no wisecracks, none of the extrovert zaniness that has made him a star. He has discarded his trademark suit and tie for combat trousers and a casual shirt. Nancy has not gone quite as far; perhaps determined to take this as another job, she is dressed in a plunging top and figure-hugging jeans.
Sorrell, 30, who models for the Ann Summers sex and lingerie shops, married Reeves a year and a half ago and the couple live together in a Kent mansion. She recently hinted that she would like to have a baby.
