There was the thought that, if creator Rob Thomas can come up with some scripts for Veronica Mars: FBI by June 15, that the CW could reconsider, but considering the show's recent string of dismal ratings this is seeming very unlikely. Rob Thomas himself has said at E! Online that he is "out of hope."

It was given a cushy time slot, and then Rob Thomas blew it by catering to shippers' demands and to the network's desire for Mars to fit into a Gilmore girly, aerie girl mold. The ratings and demos are simply too low. Dawn Ostroff *has* to make money or the network won't survive.

The cast recently gathered at Thomas’ house to watch the “Veronica Mars” finale, and Muhney didn’t talk to his boss about the show at the bash. The actor spent his middle-school and high school years in the Dallas area, and Thomas is from San Antonio, so the night of the party, Muhney gloried in the fact that Dallas Mavericks beat the San Antonio Spurs - a game Thomas was watching until the “Mars” broadcast began.
TV Guide's Michael Ausiello spoke with "Veronica Mars" creator Rob Thomas today after the CW's Upfront presentation. Even though the CW technically has until mid-June to renew or not renew the show, Thomas says:
