The team was considering a name change from their name of the Vermont Expos for the 2005 season, as its major-league parent, the Montreal Expos, had moved to Washington, D.C. and became the Washington Nationals. However, because Minor League Baseball only gives clubs 60 days after the end of the season to change names and logos, the club did not have enough time for a name change.

The Vermont Expos, the single-A affiliate of Major League Baseball's Montreal Expos, makes Burlington its home from mid-June through early September. The Expos play approximately 40 home games at UVM's Centennial field every summer. Designed to provide a family-friendly experience, Expos games offer a variety of diversions, including nightly give-away promotions and Champ, the Expos' legendary mascot.

The name of the Vermont Expos baseball team has been changed to the Vermont Lake Monsters. The name was chosen from entries submitted by fans. Champ remains the team’s mascot. Along with the new name, the team will feature new colors of navy blue, Columbia blue and green.
During the summer, she and her family open their home to host a couple of baseball players from the local minor league team, the Vermont Expos. They have participated for over 6 years. She prepares their meals and offers them a place to call home for the summer.
Expos starter Aaron Jackson did not allow a hit over the first three innings before the Renegades scored three runs, two unearned, in the fourth inning to cut the Vermont lead to 5-3. Matt Spring had an RBI groundout and Neil Walton an RBI infield single in the inning.
