The USB727 is designed to work with any computing device equipped with a Type A USB port -- including most desktops, notebooks, and tablet PCs -- and provides on-the-go access to Verizon Wireless' national high-speed wireless broadband network. With out-of-box support for most operating systems, including Windows(R) (Vista, XP, 2000), Mac(R) and Linux, the USB727 enables Verizon Wireless customers to stay connected to online resources with speeds and performance similar to those of traditional cable or DSL connections.

Breakingviews warned that Verizon might be a bit too eager to take full control of Verizon Wireless — and others seem to share a similar concern. An analyst at Prudential Equity Group, initiating coverage on Verizon on Tuesday, wrote that one of the reasons for his “underweight” rating is “the risk of potentially overpaying for Vodafone.”

The potential for widespread use of broadband services is much like the promise that wireless communications showed in its early days, according to Verizon Communications' president and co-CEO, Ivan Seidenberg. But if changes to the current U.S. telecommunications policy aren't made, broadband services won't have a chance to duplicate the success of wireless technology, he warned.
