Verizon Wireless on Thursday launched a broadcast TV service for cellphones in about 20 markets, charging $15 to $25 a month for the initial lineup from eight leading networks. V Cast Mobile TV requires a new handset capable of receiving the broadcast signal in addition to the regular cellular signal.

To usher in the Chinese Year of the Rat, Verizon will join the festivities at the San Gabriel Valley Annual Lunar New Year Parade and Festival in Alhambra and San Gabriel on Saturday. It could be a very good year for three lucky families. "Verizon is pleased to be back at this Lunar New Year Parade celebration," said Amber Chang, manager of Asian marketing for Verizon.

Since 2004, Verizon has invested about $4 billion rolling out fiber wires in communities from Texas to California and New York, according to analysts. In September 2006, it announced it would spend $18 billion by 2010. The eventual aim is to swap out all its traditional copper wire connections.
