PARIS, June 1 (Reuters) -- Vera Zvonareva's most memorable experience before this year's French Open was losing 6-0, 6-0 to Nadia Petrova when she was eight. Now the two Russians will meet in the quarterfinals at Roland Garros.

Zvonareva made her first trip to New Haven last year when she reached the Round of 16 before falling to Anna Smashnova-Pistolesi. Thus far in 2004 she has posted solid results, reaching the fourth round at the Australian Open and Indian Wells, the quarterfinals at Amelia Island and Charleston, and the semifinals at Warsaw and Rome. She won her second career title at Memphis and played steadily at Roland Garros before losing to compatriot Sharapova in the third round.

Vesnina started 2008 by reaching the quarters at Hobart, Australia, where she lost to Vera Zvonareva in straight sets (3-6,3-6) after beating Japanese Akiko Morigami (6-4,7-5) and Nuria Llagostera Vives of Spain (6-3,6-2). She then played at Gold Coast where she lost her first match to Australian Monique Adamczak in three sets. Here, in the Australian Open, she has beaten #32 seed Julia Vakulenko of Ukraine (6-4,1-6,6-4) and Jill Craybas of the United States (6-2,6-4).

At the 2007 Pacific Life Open, Zvonareva stunned World No. 1 Maria Sharapova, who was the defending champion, 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 in the fourth round. It was her first ever victory over a reigning World No. 1. She fell in the next round to Chinese player Li Na.

Zvonareva will travel to Melbourne on Saturday for an MRI. Seeded 23rd in the Australian Open, Zvonareva is scheduled to take on Japan's Ai Sugiyama in the first round at Melbourne Park early next week.
