Veolia Water, the water division of Veolia Environnement, is the world leader in water and wastewater services. The company specializes in outsourcing services for municipal authorities, industry and service companies. Veolia Water serves 108 million people worldwide. All of Veolia Environnement’s activities, except passenger transportation, are represented in Hungary by its companies Veolia Water, Veolia Environmental Services andVeolia Energiewith a combined net sales of over HUF264 billion in 2005, and with almost2800 employees. At its 2003 annual shareholders' meeting, French utility multinational Vivendi Environnement announced a new company name: Veolia Environnement, derived from Aeolus, the keeper of the winds in Greek mythology. Henri Proglio was named as Chairman and CEO. The company has four business segments: water, waste management, energy services and transportation. The water unit employs 69,000 people worldwide and serves 110 million people. In 2000 the unit's turnover of EUR 12.8 billion (of which 56% earned outside France) represented 48.5% of that of the Veolia Environnement group.

French utilities group Veolia Environnement posted a wider-than-expected annual net loss on Monday, stung by a large asset writedown in the first half, but stuck to its sales growth targets for 2004 and 2005. Veolia Environnement announces that its Water division, Veolia Water, has won two new municipal management contracts in China. These contracts with the cities of Hohhot and Weinan are for rehabilitating and operating water treatment plants.
