Trying to describe the music of Southern California band Venice is a little like trying to describe a perfect sunset or the feeling of first love. It transcends words -- you just know it's great. But since this is a bio and part of its responsibility is to use words to convey the unconveyable, try mixing the rock & roll of 70s era Aerosmith with the folk storytelling of James Taylor, mix in some Earth, Wind & Fire funk, some Maroon 5 pop, a little Craig David R&B soul, harmonies reminiscent of the Eagles at their best, and then combine old school arrangements with modern production layered with brilliant musicianship, remarkable vocal stylings and lyrics that are intelligent and often laced with wit, and you're in the ballpark.

In recent times there has been a good deal of activity in Venice in regard to the preservation of its artistic and architectural treasures. Some of the earlier activity was unfortunately misplaced. St Mark's suffered on two occasions: first during the restoration of the north facade in 1843, and again during that of the south facade,, begun in 1865 and finished in 1878. The latter façade was completely reconstructed upon 2200 piles driven to great depths, with the result that the general harmony of the monument - the effect of time and of atmospheric conditions - was completely lost. A lively agitation all over Europe, and particularly in England (conducted by Ruskin and William Morris), led the Italian government to discard the Austrian plan of restoration, at least as regards the interior of the Basilica, and to respect the ancient portions which had stood the test of time and had escaped "renewal" by man. In 1880 a Vigilance Committee was appointed to watch over the restoration of the interior. The committee secured much verde antico and porphyry for the restoration of the pavement, in place of the common marbles which it had been intended to use, and organized special workshops for the restoration and preservation of the ancient mosaics, which it had been intended to detach and replace.

There are ... many beautiful parks in the Venice area, many of which include recreational activities such as tennis, baseball, soccer, nature trails and boat launch ramps. Humphris Park, also known as the South Jetty, is located at the northern end of the city. The jetty provides a great fishing area and boat access between the Gulf of Mexico and the Inter-coastal Waterway.

If you're wondering why the road continues a little further on past Venice, the marina is down that way as is a fairly large industrial complex that looks to be oil industry related. You can actually drive a bit further, but to do so you must drive on a private gravel road that belongs to that oil business. At the end of the road there is a sign put up by the State of Louisiana which is in fact somewhat inaccurate; there's still a little more of Louisiana further south, there's just no road to take you there.
