built 289 days ago
The checkered pasts of Velvet Revolver's members have led to their Japanese visas being denied; as a result, the band has canceled its Japanese tour. Rumors that Scott Weiland was planning on re-applying for a visa under the name "Dylan McKay" were unconfirmed at the time of this blog post. [Variety]

A modern-day supergroup, Velvet Revolver includes three members from Guns N' Roses - Slash, Duff McKagan, and Matt Sorum - Dave Kushner from Wasted Youth, and Scott Weiland from Stone Temple Pilots. The band came together organically and created their sound on the back of Slash's signature guitar and Weiland's vocal snarl.

Velvet Revolver released their second album, Libertad, on July 3, 2007 in the U.S. This is just slightly over three years from the release of their first album, Contraband. The album has 13 tracks and is an enhanced CD, featuring the video Re-evolution: Making of Libertad. The band has already started touring on the new album, and sales are good with the album already on the Billboard list. You can pick up your copy at amazon.com or your local record store. Libertad is dedicated to Daniel Sorum and Michael Weiland.

Velvet Revolver began with a spring 2002 jam session that reunited ex-Guns N' Roses bandmates Slash (guitar), Duff McKagan (bass), and Matt Sorum (drums) on-stage. With the discovery that their chemistry was still going strong, the trio began pushing around some new music and auditioning singers for what became known as "the Project." Early entries included ex-Buckcherry shouter Josh Todd and Neurotica's Kelly Shaefer; both became acquainted with the cutting room floor. By early 2003, the existence of "the Project" -- and its quest for a singer -- was common knowledge, so much so that VH1 sent cameras to document the search. Dave Kushner (Wasted Youth, Dave Navarro) ... joined up as second guitarist. Troubled STP-er Scott Weiland came on board next. He and the band clicked immediately and recorded a hyper piece of glitter metal for the Hulk soundtrack called "Set Me Free." By June, "the Project" had been renamed Velvet Revolver, and Weiland was officially made its lead singer, though possession charges stemming from a May bust were still outstanding.

Velvet Revolver recorded its first track "Set Me Free" for the soundtrack for the movie Hulk in 2003. The band ... recorded a cover of Pink Floyd's "Money" which is featured in the movie The Italian Job. The band played its first live gig at the El Rey in Los Angeles in June 2003. It recorded its first album, Contraband, in the latter part of 2003 with recording complicated by Weiland's court appearances for drug charges and his subsequent sentencing to undertake rehabilitation.
