   Robert Vaughn is one of the most distinguished actors of this century, with a career spanning 40 years and still going strong. Perhaps best known as Lee in The Magnificent Seven, Walter Chalmers in Bullitt, or the enormously popular Napoleon Solo in the television series The Man From UNCLE, Vaughn has built his career on the strength of his powerful performances. Born in New York on November 22, 1932; he began acting as a youth. He has done radio and theatre as well as television and film work. After graduating high school in 1950, he attended the University of Minnesota. In 1952 he transferred to Los Angeles City College, graduating in 1956.

   The importance of The Break-Up to Vaughn can't be overstated. It's a test of what would seem to be his natural habitat, the romantic comedy. For a guy as good-looking as he is, Vaughn's had relatively few chances to set onscreen fires with leading ladies (a fate that befell his shaggy, hip precursor Bill Murray in the early '80s). In Swingers, Vaughn was easy to accept as the guy who got all the babes, but most of his recent roles have depended on his laconic cool and offbeat goofiness.

   Robert Vaughn starred as Napoleon Solo, the suave, sophisticated superspy who got the girls - along with the bad guys. Together with his partner Illya Kuryakin, played by David McCallum, the duo traveled the globe thwarting evil and doing all those spy things James Bond did on the big screen. With an array of technical gadgets, Solo and Kuryakin managed to get themselves out of countless dangerous situations. And whenever they needed to contact headquarters, they would simply pull out their trusty communicator and say, "Open Channel D."
7. Robert Vaughn -- Lieutenant
   Vaughn had several TV series in addition to The Man from U.N.C.L.E.. In the mid-1960s he co-starred with Gary Lockwood in The Lieutenant, and in the early 1970s he played Harry Rule in The Protectors. He ... played Hunt Stockwell on The A-Team with George Peppard, and veteran con man Albert Stroller on Hustle.
8. Swingers -- Vince Vaughn
   The U.S. Comedy Arts Festival announced Monday that its centerpiece showcase next month will be a 10th-anniversary celebration of the 1996 film "Swingers," which made "money" the coinage of cool. The festival, set to run March 8th-12th in Aspen, Colo., will reunite the film's cast — Vince Vaughn, Jon Favreau (who ... wrote the movie) and Ron Livingston.
