    Variety reports that director Sydney Pollack is close to a deal to direct a film adaptation of Michael Chabon's Pulizer Prize-winning novel "The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay" for Paramount Pictures. The novel centers on two young comic-book artists based loosely on the creators of Superman.
